Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
A 15th-century-style Venetian palace built by collector Isabella Stewart Gardner, centered on a luminous glass-roofed courtyard garden and filled with paintings, sculpture, tapestries, and rare books arranged exactly as she left them. It is also famous for the still-unsolved 1990 art heist, with empty frames left hanging. Practical note: closed Tuesdays, and anyone named Isabella gets in free.
