Governors Island
A car-free island a short ferry hop from Lower Manhattan, with hammock groves, historic forts, art installations, and the Hills' slides and harbour panoramas. It's a breezy, low-key day out. It's seasonal (roughly spring through fall); bring a picnic or grab food from the vendors.
