The world's largest library, whose 1897 Jefferson Building is a Gilded Age showpiece of marble, mosaics, and the breathtaking domed Main Reading Room. Free timed-entry tickets are required; the building is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended Thursday hours.
