National Museum of African American History and Culture
The Smithsonian's most architecturally striking newer museum tells the African American story from slavery through the present across powerful history galleries and rich culture floors covering music, sports, and art. Allow at least half a day; start at the bottom history levels and work up. Practical note: admission is free but free timed-entry passes are required, with same-day passes released online at 8:15 a.m. daily.
